- Our main character, Bella Swan, has lived in Pheonix for most of her life, but after he parents got separated, she thought it would be best if she moved in with her father, because her mother remarried a man with a traveling job. Bella attended a local high school and made new friends at lunch, where she was told about the mysterious Cullen family.

- As Bella is going to her classes, she discovers the youngest Cullen. Edward is in her biology class. At first, he would act repulsive towards her, but they slowly warmed up to each other. One day after school, Bella is almost crushed by a moving van, but Edward saves her with his bare hands, moving at extremely fast speeds and even leaving a huge dent in the van without being injured.

- Bella and her friends decided to have a bonfire at the beach. Bella invited Edward, but he declined without giving an explanation. At the bonfire, Bella meets up with one of her childhood friends, Jacob Black. She is surprised about how much he knows about the Cullens, discovering that they are referred to as the "Cold Ones" and that they are actually vampires.

- Bella puts the pieces together and finally decides to ask Edward about who, or what he really is. Edward truthfully reveals that he is a vampire. Not only that, but his entire family is full of vampires, who each have different abilities of their own along with their speed and strength.

- After confirming this with Edward, their relationship becomes more than just friends and it becomes something more romantic. This, however, brings danger, because Bella is human and vampires thirst over human blood. One day, Bella finds herself being attacked by another vampire and the Cullens have to come to her rescue, however she was injured in the process.
- Bella had to be hospitalized but fully recovered. Edward felt guilty about everything that happened, but Bella reassured him and told him not to blame himself for it. They went to the prom and spent the whole night in each other's presence, dancing to music and admiring the scenary.
