- Why would you do this?
- While Demeter wasn't there, Hades took Persephone to the underworld and made her become his queen.

- Demeter weped greatly. Because of this, all the crops in the land died. Zeus knew this couldn't continue and asked her to stop it, but she said that she wouldn't until she got her daughter back

- Then, Hades-God of the underworld fell in love when he saw Persephone. He had always been dark and she was light. Having this love for her, he decided that he wanted her to become his Queen of his Underworld.
- This is why crops prosper in summer and spring, and die in winter and fall. That is how the seasons came to be.
- Finally, Zeus gave in and formed a contract with Hades. For 2 periods of the year (summer and spring) did Persephone go with her mother, and for 2 periods of the year (winter and fall) did she go down with Hades.
