- 'Never knowing they shared one name, Till the day they died'
- 'Look, look i start a job next week. I'll have money comin in an I'll be able to pay y '

- 'There's shoes upon the table an' a joker in the pack. The salt's been spilled and a looking glass cracked.'
- Narrator gives a summary of the play asking if we 'heard the story of the Johnstone twins? As like eachother as two new pins, Of one womb born, on the selfsame day, How one was kept and one given away? An' did you hear how the Johnstones died never knowing they share a name'
- 'There's a pact been sealed, there's a deal been born'
- In this scene we found out that Mrs Johnstone is incredibly poor and cant afford to feed her children; we also learn of her upcoming job for the Lyons
- 'Twins, secretly parted, don't you? They.... they say that if either twin learns that he was ounce a pair, they shall both immediately die.'

- Here Mrs Lyons is first introduced. She places her 'new shoes on the table' throwing Mrs Johnstone into hysterics This pleases Mrs Lyons as she laughs. Next Mrs Lyons proceeds to ask if Mrs Johnstone is superstitious to which she replies ' no, but you never know what could happen'
- 'See this means we are blood brothers'
- Mrs Lyons when she found out about Mrs Johnstone having twins became obsessed with the idea of her taking one of the baby's in as her own. She thinks it s a great idea that 'it's perfect. Look, look, your what 4 months pregnant, but your only just beginning to show... so I'm 4 months pregnant and just beginning to show. Look, look. I could have got pregnant just before he went away.' Mrs Lyons convince Mrs J that the child's life would be better if she gave him away, urging her to give away the baby. She agrees on the condition she gets to visit the baby often.
- In this scene Mrs L fires Mrs J in the hopes to separate Mrs J's relathionship with Edward breaking their previous arangment. Mrs L hands 50 pounds to Mrs J as severance. Mrs J then storms away to get Eddie shouting that she'll call the police to which Mrs L replys that she sold her baby for 50 pounds Mrs J throws the money to the ground; Mrs Lyons then uses susperstition against her quote above. Mrs J backs off
- Mrs Johnstone
- Edward and Mickey first meet and declare themselves blood brothers cutting themselves and joining their blood, not knowing the already are biologically related. This scene also plays with the idea of class Eddie and his sweets and Mickey and his lack off; along with the difference in language.
