COVID-19, short for coronavirus disease 2019, It primarily spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, and can also spread by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus. Symptoms range from mild to severe and can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, nausea, and diarrhea. Older adults and people with underlying health conditions are at higher risk for severe illness. Prevention measures include wearing masks, practicing physical distancing, washing hands frequently, and getting vaccinated. Vaccines have been developed and authorized for emergency use, significantly reducing the risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19. However, emerging variants of the virus continue to pose challenges, highlighting the importance of ongoing surveillance, vaccination efforts, and adherence to public health guidelines.
