  • Marches from the courthouse to downtown stores, with mass arrests
  • Jimmie Lee Jackson had been killed at a night march. 50 mile march to protest his death ended in vicious beating, the Bloody Sunday
  • Thousands marched from Brown Chapel to the city capitol, the group delegation demanded an end to voting rights restrictions
  • It might be the most effective in any civil rights legislation for equality for black people in America. Next year, 9k black people had registered.
  • Johnson passed a law to protect voting rights. This law suspended discriminatory voting rules.
  • At the end of the rally in Montgomery, Viola Liuzzo had driven marchers back to Selma. When she was returning back to Montgomery a car of KKK members shot her through her car window.
