  • "Well, Shylock, shall we be beholding to you?"
  • Act 1 Scene 3: Bassanio tries to get a loan of 3,000 ducats from Shylock who is a Jewish moneylender. Eventually, Shylock agrees to loan him the money but if the money is not repaid in three months, then Shylock gets a pound of Antonio's flesh.
  • "May you stead me? Will you pleasure me? Shall I know your answer?"
  • "You call me misbeliever, cut-throat dog, and spit upon my Jewish gaberdine"

  • Act 3 Scene 1: Antonio's ships have been last at sea along with his wealth, Salerio and Solanio also mock Shylock on the loss of his daughter Jessica. Shylock performs a powerful speech on prejudice and equality. Shylock wants revenge on Antonio for all the bad things he has done to him.
