- This defense mechanism is repression. As shown in the first slide below a boy has been bit by a cat, while the second slide shows how he is now deeply scared of cats developing a phobia of cats, but is unable to remember where the phobia came from.

- This defense mechanism is denial. As shown this girl is asking her dad to stop drinking because it can be bad for him, but the dad says its fine and is in denial that anything will happen.
- Hey dad can u stop drinking??
- NO! Its fine, now leave me alone.
- This defense mechanism is sublimation. This boy has trouble with his anger so to let the anger out he does kickboxing for venting.

- This defense mechanism is projection. One girl is attracted to her friend's boyfriend, when the friend confronts the friend denies the confrontation and says it's the boyfriend that likes her.

- This defense mechanism is regression. This adult starts throwing tantrums when they don't get they're way.
