- In this scene, the suitors explain to Agamemnon in the underworld how Odysseus killed them after Agamemnon asks, "All of you... What laid you low?" (24.115, 117). This scene is important because it is how Agamemnon finds out that Odysseus is still alive and has returned home, and that Odysseus followed Agamemnon's advice to sneak in to Ithaca.

- In this scene, Odysseus finally reveals himself to his father, Laertes, saying, "Father- I am your son- myself, the man you're seeking, home after twenty years" (24.359-260). This is important because Laertes finally learns that Odysseus is home after 20 long years.

- In this scene, Odysseus, Laertes, and those who sided with them begin to kill the Acheaens who wanted to avenge the suitors, but Athena stops them, saying, "Hold back, you men of Ithaca, back from brutal war!...make peace at once!" (24.584-585). This scene is important because it represents peace finally returning to Ithaca.
