- The house is ringing the morning alarm to wake the people in it. "The voice-clock sang, Tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o 'clock! as if it were afraid that nobody would." The morning house lay empty." Personification:The house is shown having human emotions (fear) because there is no one in the house.
- "I'm afraid! What if nobody gets up?"
- "Tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up"
- The house is now making breakfast and announcing the events of the day as per its daily routine. Even though there is nobody in the house to eat the food and listen to the announcement, the house is unaware of this and still follows its daily routine.
- "Seven-nine, breakfast time,seven-nine! "Today is August 4, 2026, in the city of Allendale, California. "Today is Mr.Featherstone's birthday..."
- "Time for breakfast and to announce todays events!"
- "The house stood alone in a city of rubble andashes. This was the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles." The face of the house was all charred except for the silhouettes of a man, woman, girl, and a boy. By observing, it is obvious that some kind of explosion killed all the humans.
