- Agustín Gamarra Messía was a Peruvian politician and military man who was president of Peru.

- Agustín Gamarra then went on to fight on the side of the Peruvian patriots: in 1821, in fact, he joined José de San Martín, and although he was chief of staff of the liberating army at the battle of Ayacucho in 1824, he had previously been condemned to death for his conduct at the battle of Macacona, saved by Andrés de Santa Cruz.
